AMERICAN SYSTEMS Taps Hyuk Byun to Lead Custom Solutions Practice

Former U.S. Department of Justice IT Executive to Drive Delivery of Made-to-Measure Solutions for Customers’ Business, Training and Technical Challenges

11 June 2007—Chantilly, VA—AMERICAN SYSTEMS, an employee-owned government IT solutions provider, today announced the appointment of Hyuk Byun to the position of vice president and executive director, custom solutions within the Enterprise Engineering Group. In this role, Hyuk will manage and develop AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ business unit that provides a wide range of tailored solutions and ensures continued excellence in custom system development for business, training, and signal intelligence applications to an ever-increasing customer base. Hyuk will also be responsible for expanding AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ core solutions and its positioning as a prime candidate for large-scale engineering and integration opportunities.

Before joining AMERICAN SYSTEMS, Hyuk served as chief of information and communication technology at the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice. There, he oversaw all IT, communications, biometrics, and cyber crime programs and assisted in managing system engineering and integration for law enforcement IT and communication deployment at state and local levels.

An engineer by training, Hyuk has held leadership positions at both mid-sized and large telecom and IT companies such as Telecorp PCS, Inc., Sprint PCS/American Personal Communications and AT&T Wireless, where as vice president of technology and product development he developed and executed business development plans based on new vertical service markets. He has sat on the boards of a number of technology companies and has served as an advisor to technology investment firms. Hyuk began his career as a systems engineer at Siemens, Stromberg and Carlson (SSC) and Bell Communications Research. 

Hyuk earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Hyuk will be based out of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ Chantilly office.
