AMERICAN SYSTEMS Awarded Contract to Support U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program

AMERICAN SYSTEMS One of Three Firms Awarded Contract Worth up to $250M to Support U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program

Solutions Provider to Equip U.S. Navy and Marine Corps to Meet 2012 Federal Energy Metering Deadline to Improve Allocation and Management of Energy Assets

September 22, 2008 – Chantilly, VA – AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a government and commercial IT solutions provider and one of the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S., today announced that it was one of three firms awarded a firm-fixed price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award contract in support of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program at U.S. Navy and Marine Corps installations worldwide. The work to be performed provides services for the design, procurement, installation, testing, and sustainment of building level advanced metering solutions in support of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 for Navy and Marine Corps requirements on a global basis. This will allow the Navy and Marine Corps to cost-effectively allocate and manage electricity, gas, steam, and water commodities. The maximum dollar value for all three contracts is $250,000,000.

“Soaring energy costs and extensive military commitments abroad have made energy resource optimization and management a strategic issue for the DoD,” said William C. Hoover, president and CEO, AMERICAN SYSTEMS. “AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ broad expertise in leading-edge process improvement and technology integration will allow the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps to make informed decisions about their energy usage and meet their aggressive energy efficiency goals.”

The Department of Navy’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Program is managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) for the Commander Naval Installations Command (CNIC).  The AMI initiative facilitates measuring and analyzing energy usage aimed at reducing energy consumption through the strategic allocation of energy resources. The program illustrates the Navy’s commitment to achieving the energy efficiency goals outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT), which mandates that federal agencies install advanced metering devices that provide daily usage data across all installations.

AMERICAN SYSTEMS will design, install, test and sustain advanced metering and communications components, such as electricity meters, gas meters, and/or water meters, to record and report energy consumption at frequent intervals, giving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps unprecedented insight into their energy usage.
